Well, I figured out why my lower right jaw seems to be taking so long to be not bothersome, compared with the rest of my mouth. Seems that there are stitches on my cheek, and they're in such a place as to be kind of annoying every time I open my mouth.

On the brighter side, pretty much everything else is feeling lots better. Still means my birthday dinner is being put on hold until we're sure I don't need to be as careful with what I eat, which will likely be after the follow-up appointment next Tuesday.

Grrr...

Otherwise, first day of my class was utterly fascinating. Convinced the prof is nuts, but in the best possible way. I'm actually looking forward to the final project, in part because he's having us do something that's quite flexible. I'm looking at writing a Grant right now, and he's pretty firm about actually submitting it and trying to get it done. I don't forsee much of a problem, but I'm going to try and wing it so it can be for restoration/protection of something at my former high school. Probably going to involve a little bit of finagling, but well worth it, I'm thinking.

It's about 9 am and I've got the second load of laundry running. Yes, I'm kind of pleased with myself.

Not hitting A&S was a good thing - though I'm sad that I didn't get to see people and I heard some of the entries were quite cool. Same reason that not going into work was good, it meant I was able to curl up on the couch, watch documentaries (and the Taylor/Harrison Cleopatra) and take meds. The end result was that I felt much better by the end of the day. Of course, talking to both my parents for a decent amount of time seems not to have made by jaw very happy, so it's sore and certainly a little bit swollen. I've been trying to follow the after-care, but I need to be better about the compresses.

On the really bright side, I'm not tasting nearly as much blood in my mouth.

In other words, have been completely and utterly looking forward to PAX. The Triwizard drinking tournament just needs a few things picked up for costumes, and I really should get to work on at least one for normal use at the con. Ryan wants a Vault-Tec jumpsuit and I'm thinking of throwing something together along the lines of Lok'lira the Crone from WoW.

More importantly though, I've got class next week. I'm really looking forward to it - preservation and it should be interesting. I'm also glad because I looked at the assignment requirements again and it's not a paper as I thought it was. I'm thinking of working on a preservation grant, as it's only about 5 pages long and I think it'll actually be useful for me.

Well, I've spent today mostly in a nice little haze of sleep. Haven't left bed at all, and have I mentioned how wonderful Ryan is lately? He's been taking better care of myself than I would - making sure the meds get taken at the right times (hello Percocet) and that I'm actually eating and drinking. (Figure of speech, I tell you, I've had yogurt, and that's about it.)

Things have been slowly hurting less and less. Kind of each time I wake up, it's a little better. Right now, we're at the point where it's only feeling funky when I swallow and my jaw hurts where the lower teeth were removed from. Definitely glad that I got the lot of them removed all at once, because this is not something I'd like to go through again.

That said, I do have to say, the oral surgeon (and his staff) was wonderful. Really nice guy, and they all explained everything that was happening up until the point that I just blacked out. Considering that a)I was rather worried and it likely showed and b)I actually passed out at the consult, this was even better. Woke up, was helped into a recovery room, and then was checked on occasionally to see how I was doing. Eventually, Ryan signed discharge papers and we went home.

Since then, it's been mostly sleep and drinking lots of water. Puppybutt was allowed onto the bed for the first time on July 4th (she wasn't too keen on the fireworks), and since then, she's been very good about when she hops up and curls up next to me. Today was one of those days where she spent lots of time curled up next to me, which was rather nice, actually.

We shall see how tomorrow is. Definitely won't be going to A&S, and I won't be going in to work as I'd hoped. It hit me a little harder than I thought it would and after some thought, I realized that staying home, where I would have easy access to everything would be for the better.
swordmage: (Default)
I assume wisdom teeth removal was easy and straight-forward as I do not remember any of it.

Ryan's dropping of scripts and will pick them up.

I will sleep today. End of story.

Mmmm, drugs...
swordmage: (Abomination)
Well, the brilliant plan to get some work hours in today was thwarted by the fact that my keycard seems to not have wanted to let me into the workroom. This was odd, and without a doubt, quite annoying, but it just meant I came home and did some stuff around the house - mainly cleaning.

And it ended up being a good thing in the end, as I got a call from my dad in the early afternoon asking if I had bungee cords because he'd been rear-ended.

Several hours later, I was test driving his new (to him) Honda Civic Hybrid. I really like it.

Now though, need a quiet weekend until Monday, I think.
swordmage: (Aware with Gun)
Well, my week got a little better.

Namely, I got my alarm code for work (finally!) so I can come in on Saturday and work. With the class I've got the week of the 19th, I'll be taking that time off - given the choice of using sick/vacation or earning comp, I'll take the comp. Of course, this means I probably won't make A&S - the need to work is a little more important, and besides, the wisdom teeth are coming out the day before. I want to get a few tunic for Ryan finished, though.

Still haven't been sleeping all that well - I'm thinking more and more it's stress-related (what the stress exactly is, however, is a bit of a question), but at this point, who knows. I guess we'll see how things go in the next few weeks.

Hopefully, this weekend's going to be straight-forward. Work tomorrow for most of the day, then do school stuff on Sunday. Quiet is good...
swordmage: (Thoughtful)
It is, perhaps, a dangerous sign of domesticity when you realize that your new favorite toy is the steam cleaner.
swordmage: (Damn?)
The last seven days have been interesting. Definitely the good sort of interesting, though.

Lots of friends and food and hanging out. Of course, I'm also kind of completely drained by this point.

Work's been kind of busy, but also in the good way. I was granted minions for a short period of time in the form of student workers. The nice thing about this is that it means the damned nitrates will be inventoried properly. This pleases me, it pleases the powers that be, and that is a damned good thing.

We went up to Ikea with dad yesterday, as he needed furniture. That ended up being rather enjoyable, even if we were both wiped by the time we got back. Lunch at the Cornish Pasty company was also tasty. Of course, it usually is.

Now though, it's good to curl up and relax. Dad may swing by and do laundry, but that doesn't matter. Pretty much just need to have some time to curl up and relax.
swordmage: (choose life)
Well, got to work late this morning due to installing the barrier in the back of the car for Roxy. But it's up, and things are good now.

I then called the dentist back and made an appointment for the crown, as well as calling the oral surgeon for a consult on the wisdom teeth. Buckled down, and attacked the nitrates afterward - student workers helping are wonderful.

Came home, took the dog to the vet (went well), found out the MyPressi had arrived (*squee!*), and now need to run laundry in a little while. But I figure I'll manage that soon enough. Now, I need to sit down...

Also, yeast!

Beer!

Breckenridge's Agave Wheat is one that I really like. Forgot the name last time, so I'm writing it down now.

This is noteworthy because I've stuck to ciders for now. Last time we were at Nimbus I decided to try beer, and the Dirty Blonde wasn't on tap, so I went with this one. And when we went tonight (belated Father's Day thing), they had it and I got it.

Tasty!

Nitrates and print index cards are my life for the next week. The former are annoying (due to various things, I can't plow through them in uninterrupted shifts) and the latter aren't really that bad.

I'm more interested in getting home, organizing a few things, and seeing Nico this weekend.

And baking. Baking is good and helps me stay sane. Have found the most lovely instant yeast, and must use more of it.

We have patio furniture!

Well, sort of. When it arrived, we discovered that a number of the tiles for the table had been broken in transit and the table itself's frame was somewhat dented. Chairs at least came out of this intact, and Home Depot has been called for a replacement.

*sigh*

Of course, night got better because we had Aasni and Argyll over for dinner so we could talk about feast gear commission. We've got a pitcher of hers that I got several years ago and love, and we've wanted a set of gear that kind of goes with it for some time. Finally, we got together to discuss it and things went quite well. Cups, bowls, and plates, in styles to match the pitcher with animals we have that she made. I'm really looking forward to it, if only because it's going to be quite nice.

I've officially given up on the 50 books list for the year. I'm reading, but keeping track of it's kind of a lost cause. I will say, Still Life - Adventures in Taxidermy is *fascinating*. There's a chapter on the woman who does Hirst's stuff, and another on Hirst himself, and those two chapters alone are well worth it. Of course, the chapters on Victorian and museum taxidermy are also really good, and quite suitable for one not as inclined towards contemporary art.

Roxy is settling in. I've got a few photos of her uploaded to Flickr.

She's had a few housetraining accidents, but they're lessening in number and I'm willing to chalk it up to her being used to living outside (and we don't have a doggy door). We need to definitely get her used to dogs and people, as we'd love to be able to take her to war with us. Her diet's going really well, as we're working on switching her to raw. She's currently attacking chicken leg quarters and happily chewing through them. (Though I need to keep reminding myself that the sound of bone getting eaten isn't a bad thing.)

Now, if only I could get over this lingering cold. I'm not sure what it is, but it's getting annoying. I'm not sick, at least not enough that I'm confined to bed, but there's certainly something kind of off and I'm over it already.

I keep telling myself one thing at a time.

And so far, it seems to be working.

Yay!

This weekend was productive!

I only say that because we hung art. Which was a really good thing, because it was piling up in the corners. Still need the Army of Darkness poster framed, and need to pick up another poster frame, but anything that didn't require concrete screws got hung up.

Whee!

I didn't get everything I wanted to do done, but that doesn't mean I didn't get anything done.

Friday was, honestly, mostly lazing about. Well, that and errands. This worked nicely, as we both kind of needed a break from things and the opportunity to just relax.

Saturday, we helped my dad move. He's got an apartment now and seems really happy, which is good. Moving was incredibly straight-forward, and actually kind of nice because it went so smoothly.

Sunday and today involved baking. Lots of baking. I made cookies, pop tarts, bread, rugelach, and a tart. Croissants did not get made, but there was house progress - yard is cleaner, laundry was tackled, and so were various small bits and pieces. Can't complain in the least.

Back to work tomorrow, but a four-day week won't be bad. I intend on doing some more baking and generally getting things straightened up around the house.

I'm pleased, without a doubt.

Friday!

At least in the end-of-week scheme of things. Dom and I had been planning on going out of town this weekend, but for various reasons, it's not happening. However, we both had the time put in and so decided to keep it.

Consequently, it's going to be a mostly quiet weekend of house-work, I think. And baking. Lots of baking. Have someone looking at the pool pump tomorrow, which is good. We're helping dad move on Saturday, and have a few potential and vague plans in the evenings, but that's about it.

This afternoon, need to run a few errands before picking Dom up from work. I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend of doing stuff I feel like doing. I've ordered the few books I need for the summer and fall classes, and they're shipped. My baking supplies are coming today and playing with them will be fun. (Yes, I'm certainly looking forward to all of it. I need it in many ways.)

I'll certainly get some reading in as well, and maybe cutting out of linen. We've got stuff for new clothing, and with everything settling have more time for SCA projects. My spinning wheel is partially disassembled so I can fool around with a few things before spinning more - I'd like to spin the pound of wool I have setting aside. Maybe I'll also find Dom's 40K minis so they can get stripped...

It is, perhaps, time to admit there is serious baking binge about to occur when you have more unsalted than salted butter in the fridge and are thinking that it's high time to restock the wheat germ because you're pretty sure you can't find yours.

It's shaping up to be a pastry-like weekend. I have plans...
swordmage: (Default)

Well, rugelach did not come out to my exacting standards. The dough was perfect -though I need to remember to roll it thinner next time - tangy with a little sweetness, but the filling needs work.

Oh, the agony.

Bread dough, on the other hand, looks quite nice and should be good by the time I finish before practice tonight.

Feels good to bake once more...

Life

Things are, in short, settling.

This is a great relief, as most people know I've been all over the place as of late. I'm finally organizing my mind and my life into something vaguely sane and planned. I'm learning what the important things are to me and what I need to do so that I don't get utterly lost in it again. It's a shitty place for me and I don't like it at all. My goal is to get everything organized before I go back to school in July so that I have a clean space, and therefore easier mind, from which to go forward.

The weekend was really good. We cleaned on Saturday and had people over for Craft Night, which seemed to go very well. I didn't get much done, but hung out with friends and relaxed, which I needed. I've got part of my spinning wheel taken apart right now so I can fool around with it, and that makes me happy. Also, the leg of lamb went over well and the burgers were tasty (did I mention we got a grill?).

Sunday we got together with my dad for awhile. He's moving next week and we brought up boxes before hitting Best Buy so Ryan could help him spec out a new TV. Dad seems to be doing well in terms of moving, and that's a good thing. We'll help him on Saturday and that should be easy and straightforward. We'll have him over for dinner as well to further play with the grill - it's a gas and charcoal beast, and I'm happy.

Plans this week are simple and easy. Wash all the linen in the spare bedroom, clean the craftroom, and bake. I have rugelach dough in the fridge and Fred is bubbling away, ready to be made into sourdough. I may start organizing the kitchen as well, but I don't want to get ahead of myself, so if I don't get to it I'll be annoyed.

So, I'm currently on the couch, watching Hustle (oh, how I love a good con), with Ryan playing WoW, and a furry body under my feet.

In other words - we got a dog!

Her name is Roxy, and she's a black and brown 7 year old shepherd mix of some ilk. (The rescue says Belgian Shepherd Tervuren, which is very likely utter BS. Of course, it doesn't matter in the least to us.) Utterly adorable and a complete sweetheart, we both fell in love with her when we met her on Saturday. Happily, she seemed to fall in love with us as well. Or at least our backyard and the smell of cooking pork in the oven.

We're still in that adjustment period - where we're figuring her out, and she's figuring us out. This isn't bad, as it means we're going to need to be more on top of things like dishes. She's just tall enough to nose around on the counters if she stands up. It's kind of amusing, but just requires more diligence from us. She's also quite fond of wandering along the back of the couch that is near the window.

Consequently, we've spent most of the rest of the weekend (ie - today) letting her get adjusted while I did schoolwork and Dom's been goofing off in other respects. We did a bunch of cleaning yesterday, which was a relief as well. Means this week I can concentrate on writing of papers. (Argh!)

There's a small album on Facebook and I'll get better photos up on Flickr soon.
