Stupor Bowl and Corrupting the Innocent

Actually, it's just my little sister. And the corruption is only in the mind of my mother. It's simple and straight-forward, dad and I let her see movies the MU would freak about. Dogma being a perennial favorite. And we're working on Constantine.
But she's a mature 14 years old. Yesterday, she mentioned that Hotel Rwanda was something she'd like to see. Pippa knew what it was about, was interested, and dad and I were game. So we went and saw it.
It was great. Disturbing, emotional, chilling... but great. We got out, talked about the movie (and Pippa was more then happy to learn more about the background), dad mentioned that it's sort of like the Iraqi Sunni/Shiite thing, and discussed the film some more.
Would I recommend it?
Hell yes.
So after that, we went home, saw most of Daniel Deronda (Masterpiece Theatre=love. 90% of the time at least), and then headed to aStupor Super Bowl party with the MU. Which wasn't that bad. Reminded me of why I generally dislike football. In a nutshell-takes an obscene amount of time to play, a mere two teams, and just plain boring. Give me a good race over it any day.
Party was held at a friend of a friend of mom's place. They're nice people, so I wasn't particularly bothered. And there was lots of good food, which was nice. But Susan had the twins, and if it wasn't for Pippa, I think there may have been some very nasty adults.
Because Pippa was more then willing to play with the five year old hellions. And that's what they are. Bouncing off the walls, throwing balls, screaming, etc. And the best part? Their parents did nothing to stop them. These children completely lack discipline and are uber-spoiled by the parental units.
Grrr....
And on a final, and lighter note,
sages_of_chaos is wonderful.

Date: 2005-02-07 06:25 pm (UTC)I think for me I can't forgive Hollywood for not making John Constantine British. That's a huge part of his character and there are plenty of actors who could play the part. *coughjamesmarsterscough* But, judging by the fact there were two commercials for the movie during the stuper bowl, they must have put tons and tons of money toward this and needed a 'name' to play the part. Sigh.
I have no desire to see Hotel Rwanda, but that's because I'm an escapist and don't want to look at things that remind me the world can be a horrible place. lalalalalala-not happening-lalalalala.
