Upon checking newspapers this morning, I was delighted to read of the Mac mini. Granted, it was apparently all over certain news stations last night, but as I'm deprived when at mom's, for all practical purposes this morning.

At about $500, it's downright cheap. True, there's no monitor, keyboard, or mouse, but they're cheap and easily obtainable. Still, the damned thing is very snazzy looking, and should hang around longer then the Cube.

And this may help to bring the masses to what is (at least in my opinion) a superior OS. I'm a Mac person through and through. I think they've got a much easier interface and run better. Not to mention in all the years my dad has had his lovely iMac, I don't think it has ever crashed. Or at least nothing not easily fixed by him with no outside help. Not to mention the thing is maybe five or six years old, if not more. And while it's getting a bit grumpy at times, all you need is to give it a little time. And I think if we trash about half the stuff on the hard drive, it'll be much better.

Yes, there are fewer games then for someone running Windows. But that's slowly changing. And if you're really desperate, get VirtualPC.

And while we're on the Apple subject, the iPod shuffle is very nice. Holds about 120 songs, which isn't as many as an iPod, but it still looks good and beats carrying a discman everywhere.
