Instead, you get to hear me ramble about celebrities complaining about how they don't seem to have an privacy. :D


This is actually a bit of a spin-off of something we were talking about in the Common Room a few weeks ago. I keep meaning to type it up, but never seem to get around to it. Someone was playing Lindsey Lohan's Rumors on Launch, and we got to discussing how annoying it is when celebrities complain about their lives.

I've included lyrics of the three songs I mention under a cut. Just so you have an idea what in all hells I'm talking about.

The whole thing, as I said before, started with Rumors. Lindsey Lohan getting annoyed that she lacks privacy and is followed everywhere. Of course, what's thoughtfully not mentioned is the fact that this is a fact of life for many celebrities. They can't go anywhere without people recognizing them. There's a reason People and Star do so well. Your exploits are far more interesting then the boring lives of so many. Note: I usually take a look at People every week. It amuses me. But to some extent you've got to laugh when you hear I'm tired of Rumors Started/I'm sick of bein' Followed/I'm tired of people Lyin/Sayin what they want about me/Why cant they Back up off me/Why cant they let me live.

From there, you go to Randy Newman's Lonely At The Top. A song which I love. But then again, I love all things by Randy Newman. He's just a brilliant songwriter. And by the way, apparently he wrote the song for Frank Sinatra. Who turned it down. He says that, I've been around the world/Had my pick of any girl/You'd think I'd be happy,/But I'm not/Ev'rybody knows my name/Still it's just a crazy game/Oh, it's lonely at the top. So, if you ask me, here you have someone who knows that being a celebrity has both its ups and downs, and that you need to take them both. Not to mention that being on top of the world can get a bit lonely if there's no one to share it.

And finally, we have BNL's take on fame, in Celebrity. Here you've got someone who knows that with celebrity has a price. As is said near the end of the song, I could disappear into the great unknown/And it would wear my face as if it were its own. No matter where you are, people know it. And then there's the reminder that, as a celebrity, you should be happy with what you've got, Be happy that they've made you a celebrity.

In short, Lindsey, you'd do well to remember that all those "Rumors" are what's fueling your career.

And on a side note, am I the only one who's annoyed by actors (Hillary Duff, and now Lindsey Lohan) thinking that just because they've got a few hits on the small and large screen, they must be God's Gift to Mankind, and therefore must inflict us with their singing.

But of course, record sales show that I'm wrong and in fact the masses view them as Godly Gifts.

Oh no, you're definitely not alone. If my sister and I happen across the Disney Channel and there's a Linday Lohan or Hilary Duff music video playing, we watch it (or not, depending on how annoying it is), and my sister, who thinks she's a voice expert just because she can sing opera, comments on how horrible their voices are and that just because they can act doesn't mean they can sing, and I must agree. I have no idea who would actually blow money on that crap by buying a CD of it though. Preteens perhaps.
