(no subject)

So, we're not going to Highlands this year. then again, haven't the last two either, but that's a moot point right now, isn't it?

I do think that it means I should get the creative juices flowing again. Looking at stuff in the Met helped, and all the fabric and supplies I've got lazing about just need to be used. I'm thinking of planning/starting the appliques I want to put on our coats (no, I don't care about accuracy. I want pretty! And this more relates to the fact I'm using greco-roman pieces of art to base at least some of them off of).

Also plan on at least cutting out a new pair of bag-trousers for [livejournal.com profile] domnall and maybe beginning work on his gambeson.

As an aside - anyone on the flist have any knowledge/experience in carving bone? (Or mammoth ivory...) I was looking at reliquaries and other small box-like things, and may look into entering one at an A&S down the road.

On a random TV-front:
The flash-mob in the season premier of Weeds made me so happy. It doesn't seem to be on YouTube yet, but when it is...
And Nurse Jackie is quite good - I'm thinking I'll end up liking it more than House.

Ari and Justin have both worked with bone (and I think ivory, although probably not mammoth.) The small boxes are very, very pretty.

Will miss you at Highlands, but after spending the last 2 weeks where I just couldn't stop sewing... I totally understand the siren cry of projects.

*makes note* I'm simply thinking mammoth ivory will be the easiest to get hold of for what I'm debating.

*grin* That and the fact that we just spent two weeks out on the East Coast. The chaos!

Alas, only bone I ever work with is when I cut a nut or saddle for a guitar.

For bone/ivory carving, talk to Mistress Ari. (scribe-ari on LJ) She does some nice stuff.

As to no Highlands... well Friday there's a small group of "Not at Highlands" people heading to Sushi-Cho at 6. You and Dom are welcome.
