So, got my wool felt yesterday. This is good, can finally finish up some stuff I've been wanting to for a while.
Ordered some Threadless shirts - needed T-shirts, and figured I should get some I was amused by. Plus, at the time, they were having a decent sale.
domnall got an unexpected Best Buy gift card - so we picked up Slumdog Millionaire, Quantum of Solace, a Bruce Campbell flick, and MarioKart. Further thinking says should have picked up Repo! as well.
I should update my 50 books 2009 list - finished the Robin McKinley I've got and some other stuff...
Picked up Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. My suspicion is that I shall spent most of it alternating between ragey!Willa, interested!Willa, and note-taking!Willa.
Currently waiting on tattoo design to come back from my mother. I gave her parameters, she's designing something. Woot!

Date: 2009-04-02 06:09 pm (UTC)He might be better know to you as Nathaniel Constantine, Sir Brendan's squire. Great guy, good friend, does great art and would do it on the cut rate for a SCAdian that was recommended by Perin or I.
I don't have any ink myself, but have had several roomies into it. (You should see Tara's back and shoulder pieces sometime...) I'm a big fan of a tattooist being:
a. professional. If they aren't avidly promoting sterile technique, avoid them. Hold them to the same standards you would a physician. Also, a tattooist should never be willing to work on someone who's been drinking... for so many reasons.
b. an artist who's work you like. Don't be afraid to look at their portfolio or ask around. After all, this is a piece of art that they're going to be transcribing onto you. It's going to be there likely the rest of your life.
c. someone you're willing to trust. Take them your artwork design and then talk about it. They may have some good insights, will produce a better work if they have a sense of involvement and ownership, and their own style is going to influence the final no matter what.
d. willing to consult with you prior to actually inking. Great tattoos don't "just happen". There needs to be some communication before hand about the prices, art, and schedule if it needs multiple visits. Best is if they're the kind of artist you can take to dinner or something, chat, and let them think on it for a week before the ink.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Date: 2009-04-02 07:27 pm (UTC)I'll be honest, she's a far better artist than I - particularly when it comes to mimicry of stuff. And as the design it's being based on (http://pages.sssnet.com/7genex7/s2image.gif) is several thousand years old...

Date: 2009-04-02 07:35 pm (UTC)It's something I've wanted for a long while, and so there's a (growing) list of what my criteria are. My plan was that, as soon as I've got the design in hand, start going to places and talking with the artists, looking at portfolios and so on. Currently though, I'm thinking of starting with Fast Lane - I've really liked what I've seen and so on. But the stuff you linked? I'm liking his style, hrmmm...
