Yeah, they don't want to subsidize birth control, but they're more than happy to pay for an entire pregnancy, labor and delivery for the cost of the first office visit. Go figure. And let's not forget the growing number of pharmacies and pharmacists who are demanding the right to shove their religous beliefs down our throats by not providing it at all.

We're switching from Blue Cross Blue Shield to United Healthcare.

I remember when the insurance companies raked me over the coals for this type of meds. I ended up going to planned parenthood and getting it free. They don't make you provide tax forms so I put what I had to on the forms. I figured I pay taxes and the insurance crap wasn't worth dealing with.

Currently, I'm looking at getting an IUD. However, on the off-chance my body decides to rebel against it, doesn't hurt to know of back-ups...

I've had about 2 people I know use an IUD without issue...everyone else...not good results.

you kind of have to lie about your income. I would advise against putting your marital status. It worked for me when I was a student. I was happy to pay a reasonable amount but once it became an obsene amount I went and got it free. I think they wanted me to pay something like $75 a month.

Current insurance is $10/month. New insurance, $60. And if i get it at Campus Health, without insurance, it's $40 (or thereabouts).

Honestly, the whole thing is obscene...

Btw, ditto on what Ianuk says. I only hear good things with the IUD if you've already had kids, otherwise small problem. My sister got some shot inserted into her arm that she likes but I'm a ring-user :o)

Oh I did depo for 10 years and I luved it minus the 10 pounds I couldn't loose no matter what.

I switched out to the ring a few years ago when we decided to think about a family and be on something that didn't take 18 months to get out of my system.

Yup-- got a rec for a GREAT dentist here in town, especially if you're a total dental coward like me. Dr. Mike Scott, over at Wilmot/Speedway in the Trader Joe plaza there; he's on the second floor behind TJs, big redheaded Texan with a good sense of humor. He *likes* insurance and would prefer to charge them; he'll tell you everthing he wants to do, work out a schedule, and break up your bill into payments. I heard about him a few years ago from Mistress Morgan; so far I've recc'd him to a bunch of people. He's *good*, and his # is 290-8900.

I've had no problems with the IUD - I really love not having to think about my birth control once a month.

And no hormones - my body hates the hormones!

I think it is dependent on they type you get. I have not heard great things about the copper T. And of course the modern IUC is different than the c. 1970 IUDs - whole different animal (thank goodness).

That is an obscene amount for Birth Control - and way more than we pay on United Health Care, it really depends on your employer. Do you get a discount if you buy 3 months at a time?

You know what I find interesting, to compare how much they will cover Birth Control and how much of viagra they will cover...

Hope you find a BC method you like. It always amazes me that there really isn't that much choice out there. I mean they act like there is, but mostly, its delivery method. Your choices are: Hormones, barriers or an IUD. That isn't that much choice, you would think after all this time there would be other choices. Which becomes more evident if you can not tolerate hormones like me :)
