Dear Prof-Who-Shall-Remain-Nameless

I am quite grateful that you are willing to write me a letter of rec for grad school. I know the copy I gave you was, well, drek. So, when you emailed me asking for *another* copy - I was happy to provide, the second version is improved, if you ask me.

However, you do nothing for my confidence when you mention it still needs work. Thanks for the offer to meet with me next week, but the thrice-damned-thing is already submitted. As an aside, the time you mentioned is one where I'll be at work - but that's secondary.

You're really not helping my paranoia about grad school. I know you mean well, and this isn't the effect you're hoping to elicit. But really, I'm worried enough about this as is. If grad school doesn't happen - I have no idea what will...

Thanks a ton
-Willa

Perhaps telling them, "Write the damn letter, okay? Thanks! Bye!"

I thanked her for the offer and then told her that I'd already submitted the application.

I'm not sure if it's better or worse than the other prof who's writing me a letter - she told me flat out that she'd never written one for either that program or one similar and wasn't sure what she should be writing.

My uber-boss, on the other hand, is more than pleased to write me a letter. I'm hoping it'll help my cause greatly.

If I thought a letter from the pope of the church of wonk would help, I'd be more than willing to write one...

My boss seems to adore me - I think she'll do nicely...

Deep breaths, sweetpea. You'll be fine. You're intelligent, creative, and thorough in your work. Everything will be okay.

Take a deep breath and try not to worry. I think you'll do fine. :)

I know that this time last year I was also freaking out, but seriously Willa, I think that you will have no problem getting into this school. Don't sweat it. Pretty soon you will be getting your acceptance letter and you will just be like "Woohoo! Now, why was I so nervous? Of course I am fabulous and they would have been crazy not to accept me!" And then, when you take 504 you will be like "Why the heck did I want to do this again?!" but you will survive like everyone else. :)

Thanks. It seems that Art History profs are clueless as to why one of their students would apply to SIRLS.

This is why I'm getting my boss - an archivist - to write me a letter. I'm desperately hoping it'll help.
