Blarg!

Destroyed two hours of work in five minutes with a band saw in class today. Am pissed I didn't see the issue beforehand (but at least Jim and I agreed it was needed).

Need to study more for GREs.

I have a splitting headache and am feeling quite out of it.

And would someone please explain why, in all hells, I've been sick more times this semester than at any point since I came out here?

Power tools...the way to screw up your project even faster!

That is why the first few times I do anything I use hand tools.

Sorry hun! This too shall pass

Mercifully, the destruction was intentional. that does not lessen the annoyance that it had to happen. Several hours of nice work with a file gone.

ah...gotcha. But the addage still applies..I'm all about the handtools.

I find myself loving the big ole files more and more. I feel like I've got more control with them.

you do with handtools...one pass removes much smaller amounts of material than a power tool.

When I did my first ear scoop I used all handtools..completely...it took me forever but it was good because I now know how bone works and what you can and can not do to force it into shape. So nice.

Power tools?

Part of me wants to justify using power tools (1/2" industrial hand-drill + diamond-crusted metal saw = incomparable batch of awesome), but I know, deep down in my leatherworking heart, that Ianuk's got it right.

As for the illness, blame Fred.

It's the wooden part of a sculpture for class. Due on the 3rd. There was no way I was going to get the basic form done without them. That happened was that the wood wasn't doing what I wanted, and getting it that way with hand tools would have been a nightmare.

So five minutes on the band saw, followed by an hour and a half with a file yielded something usable.

Fred is innocent.

Ah the joys of art. Sorry, hon.
