Capybara!

When I was little, and we lived in San Francisco, I loved going to the zoo. (What little kid doesn't?) But instead of going to see the elephants, lions, tigers, etc, I'd drag my parents to the other end of the zoo. To a place with large South American rodents.

I have no real clue why I like them, though they're adorable.

When we got Hunka Munka, our guinea pig, (officially my little sister's, but for all practical purposes, she regards me as "mommy"), my little sister's comment was "Your own little capybara!"

Did I mention that they're semi-aquatic?

I never thought of that, but you're right!

I love those little guys!! I'm always so excited when they appear on Animal Planet programs. I don't think I've ever seen one in person though. :( *hopes that there will be a South American animal show on Animal Planet soon*

The last time I actually saw them was when I was about 6-so 12 years ago. I've sworn to myself that if when I'm next in SF, I'm going to the zoo to see them again.

I second that.

You know, there was an ad for Children of Dune on SciFi last week, and for some reason, you popped into my head.

That said, I'm not surprised.
