The Thanksgiving Update
Nov. 28th, 2010 07:47 pmIt was quiet, and life was good.
Pretty much I got out of work early on Wednesday, came home, and typed away to my heart's content in order to finish a project that was due. (Actually, that was the sound of my life for the first half of last week. That and wondering how in all hells some of the LIBI stuff got to be in a shape as lousy as it was, considering the contents and such...)
So, we really didn't bother doing anything for the holiday. Well, except goof off. Dad had to work, so he came over after he was finished, and then we just relaxed and chatted. I refused to cook a turkey (though we have one in the freezer), but instead did twice-cooked pork belly, chicken in vinegar, dry-fried green beans, and a mix of mushrooms. Prep-time took maybe an hour, and the actual cooking was maybe half an hour. We all agreed it was incredibly good - particularly the pork belly - and everything went wonderfully. The quiet day was something that all of us sort of needed, and I think we were grateful.
Friday and Saturday were, well, incredibly lazy. I swung by Ianuk and Ivan's on Friday so that a new piece for my spinning wheel could be made. It looks quite good, and I just need to put more linseed on it, as well as my wheel. (This would also be a much easier task if the canister of the oil sitting on my table was able to be *opened*. Seriously, the damned thing refuses to open...) On Saturday, we also mostly relaxed, though dad came over and he and Ryan put the beer into the carboy. An added bonus to that visit was the fact that we ended up going over to his place for dinner (jambalaya!) and movies (The Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street and Buckaroo Banzai).
Honestly, I really couldn't have spent a better few days.
Today we saw the new Harry Potter film - and enjoyed it, at least apart from the running commentary from the family behind us. It quieted down once the previews were over, but neither of us were entirely pleased with it. Seriously people, keep quiet during the movie, or at least use your inside voices... Anyway, once we got home, I headed off to Bentley's to finish another project, as well as meet with a classmate about the last little bit of group work. I'll be glad when the projects are over, and I can certainly argue about the uselessness of some things in the grand scheme of my degree. does remind me i need to finish up at least one piece of writing for said degree)...
Now, it's back to work tomorrow. I've had a lovely weekend, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't wishing it lasted another few days. This week I need to finish up the two projects that are due, and also plan a few things. Cleaning should probably also be done, and it's likely going to get at least partially worked on. For example, there's a laundry hydra that needs to be slain...
