'Tis Oscar Time!
Feb. 22nd, 2009 06:45 pmAnd yes, I'm being a good little minion and sitting here watching the lead-up/Red Carpet-thingy. We'll see how long this lasts as it seems they're running a very minor delay between video and sound, so the mouths don't totally match up. This is organic.
In fairness, I'm also going through JStor for research purposes. So this is more of a background noise for me.
But at any rate, I find myself somewhat blase about it all. I've been bad an not seen most of the films up this year - I rather wanted to see Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler. And Milk. But once again, the deluge of main "contenders" descended within a short period of time.
I like movies, I genuinely do. Usually don't see as many of them during the year as I'd like, but so be it. But more and more I find myself disliking the way Hollywood operates. And what they put out. While we get to see endless variations on drek such as Meet the Spartans parade across screens, potentially wonderful films - Guillermo del Toro's planned At the Mountains of Madness for example, or a film version of The Subtle Knife - get to languish in the realm of will-not-be-made.
So, the Oscars are here. And yes, I am watching the incredibly self-centered show that is the Oscars. Damn it, would it be so hard to release good movies over the course of the entire year? It would certainly be easier to get excited for the Awards Season...
People, when I can count on one hand what I'm looking forward to this year - we may have a problem.
Hrmmm... Hugh Jackman may be good for this year's show. "I am Wolverine" had me giggling...
