"I was crucified here 25 years ago..."
Jul. 18th, 2006 09:57 amI love Michael Palin.
Seriously.
Currently on the Travel Channel, he's going through the Sahara. I highly recommend it. He's really into it all, and it's both fun and interesting. I missed his Himalayas tour, which I rather regret, but still.
Palin's got this great enthusiasm about him - last night he was travelling with some salt merchants, and it was fun. They spoke a mix of French and the local dialect, and the communication was quite amusing at times...
I remember when he went around the world, years ago. The one image I've got from that is him standing on the deck of a ship in a storm and holding a white handkercief out while yelling something.
On a more sober note - as i was typing this, an email popped up from my grandmother. continuation of one from yesterday. when the headline started "slain student..." my heart plummeted. more. one of my friends from school died on sunday near the university of wyoming. i knew he'd died, she told me that yesterday, but there's a major difference between an accident/sickness (which would have been odd)/etc and murder...
i wish his family the best, and half-wish i was in laramie to go to the service or in newport to go to the memorial at the abbey.
he was a good kid - funny, nice, and smart. he will be missed.
