Sep. 2nd, 2005 07:45 amI have a cousin who goes to Loyola in New Orleans. Thankfully, she's safe. Even if she'll have no classes this semester.
But in going through news reports online (mainly on the BBC and the NYTImes), I'm struck by so much. First off, it's a mess down there. And seems to be rapidly getting moreso. I'm annoyed somewhat by bits and pieces of the coverage. And Bush is quickly moving even further up on my "If I had an opportunity, I'd do something nasty to them." (I think he was already at the top, now it's just by how much.) I need a quicktime version of his chat from Good Morning America, I think it was. I've got Anderson Cooper flipping out downloaded and sitting on my desktop to watch when I get a chance.
Really though, it's a mess down there. I feel very bad for all the people whocouldn't get out decided to stay in New Orleans. It's now being noted (though i may just have missed it before) that the majority of those who stayed were the poor. And had no way to get out.
News generally doesn't have the effect of actually turning my stomach-but reports from the Superdome are doing just that.
And I'm also struck by the lousyness of Federal Aid.
