I'm sick of celebrities.
May. 12th, 2005 11:32 amIt seems that no matter where you go, there they are. In ad campaigns, the news, on people's lips, etc. And then they go and talk about "pet causes" and such (please, Angelina Jolie-shut up!).
It's hit a point where we (the public) seem to care more about them then ourselves. Honestly, do I even give a damn about Brad Pitt's divorce lawyer? No!
And even more so-do I care at all about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears? Same answer here-NO. Paris Hilton is neither pretty nor interesting. End of story. Britney Spears is also over-exposed. She's pregnant. Fine. I don't care anymore. And her husband...? Ugly as sin and an ass as well. I also care nothing sbout his "career".
I'm thoroughly sick of Puff Daddy's Making the Band becase when I see it, I'm reminded of the sorry state of contemporary music. Because these girls simply "look pretty" and can dance. I saw an episode where they tried to write lyrics to a small bit of a song, and the results were atrocious.
I don't care what they have to say. In fact, never ask them their opinion on anything. I don't care what their romantic status is. I have no interest in what fashion faux-pas they have committed today. I have positively no interest in what they're eating, how they're dieting, and who they snogged or shagged last night. That's their business and I don't care about it.
The Michael Jackson trial... I don't think I need to say anything about it.
Don't get me wrong-there are some people I love no matter what. Bono, hell, let him ramble on. At least it's a cause he's been promoting for years. I expect him to talk about World Peace and such. Doesn't stop me from liking him in any way. And after big awards caremonies, like the Oscars of Grammys, I tend to like to see what people were wearing.
And if you want to talk about upcoming movie projects-I'm all for it (Rhys-Myers in The Last Unicorn=good). I see nothing wrong with it. And if you somewhere want to mention that some of the best actors right now (in my opinion) are not 20 year old no-talent hacks, (*coughWilliamMacyrockscough*) I'll be happy.
I recently realized that I tend to like actors (and musicinas, for that matter) more the less they speak and the less I see of them. British groups (Coldplay, Keane, Franz Ferdinand-all of whom I see little of in the news and such) have it right, in my mind. It's the music that matters, not the people. I like Michael Caine, Lyle Lovett (who refuses to talk about his marriage to Julia Roberts), Ben Affleck (more so now that Lopez is gone), and a whole random cross-section of actors.
I wish I could find the quote from some older actress saying that Nicole Kidman is over-hyped, not really all that talented, and not as beautiful as everyone thinks she is. People hated her for saying that, but it was nice to hear it.
NAturally-I'm sure there's the question of why I bring this up. Probably the sheer self-loathing I felt for myself when I looked at
ohnotheydidnt yesterday. And when I find myself listening to ProFM's "Celebrity Sleaze" in the mornings. Those reasons and a story about Tara Reid trying to get into a big Derby party last Friday. She wasn't invited, so they turned her away, but the crowd outside started chanting "Let her in" (or something like that), and so they did. And I thought to myself, "Stick to your guns dammit. There's probably a good reason she wasn't invited."
