How I do detest people who get everything they want. maybe not all of them, as some of my school friends have parent who are loaded. but they're so much more grounded.
Even more so when they're related to me.
What now, o whiny one? does seem to be the appropriate question to the following rant, and so I shall cut it short. And try to keep it to the point.
Cousin in question spent the night. She's down from Buffalo with her father (whom I like quite a bit) and her brother (who hasn't driven me up the wall yet). I';m surrently looking at her brand-new iPod (and for tha matter, her (10?/11?) year old brother's. Talking with the MU last night (who, much as it galls me to admit, has a reason for much of what she does, even if that reason can be a little odd at times) was interesting. Yesterday, at the gym, cousin was in a snit for part of the time because her father would not go to the car (which was maybe thirty seconds away from the gym) to get her iPod. Can you say lazy?
Not to mention she's a bit full of herself. Heck, another cousin was that way until she got a large (and nasty) dose of reality. But that's a story left for another time, and the basic moral is that she's a better person for it. which merely means that she's moved up onto my list of tolerable people
What brought this around? Her ice-queen nature among other things. And maybe, to some small extent, a short discussion I had with my dad when the power went out the other night about how lucky we are here and the power going out just goes to show how spoiled we are, that we complain about it.
And on a less selfish note, according to the BBC, the tsunami death toll could reach over 100,000. That's not that surprising, but I feel so much pity for all the people there. Really does put how lucky we are here into perspective. A natural disaster of those proportions is, to be honest, not really comprehendible. In the states, if a natural disaster kills 50, it's a serious tragedy. But over 50,000 (as that's what the count was last time I checked), is just massive. Staggering.
