Doing Better Now

The trip to La Encantada was a success - less than 5 minutes for the guy at the Genius Bar to check my laptop cable and declare it was borked. He ran the necessary diagnostic to make sure that was it and grabbed the cord to replace my old one. So, now I have a new power cord and Irulan is happily back at work.

Then I went to AJ's, bought a few bottles of beer and some cultured butter, and headed home. Now I'm on the couch watching Project Runway (don't judge! please! though watching one of the designers mourn his brand new D&G pants is very amusing) and eating Cape Cod chips. They're 5 cheese flavor which is surprisingly tasty.

I've also been downloading stuff for my Kindle. I need to play around with some of the books I've nabbed - the formatting is a teensy bit wonky, it seems - but overall it's pretty cool. I've been getting lots of classic sci-fi, as well as books by authors like Stephenson that I've wanted to read for awhile but haven't actually nabbed. If anything, it's really going to curb my purchases of fiction. At least fiction of the... single read-through variety.

ETS some time later: Have episode 2 of Sherlock and a bottle of Nimbus' Dirty Guerra. Life is rather better at the moment, I think.

Which Sherlock are you watching?

The 2010 BBC one. It's a 3 episode mini-series by Stephen Moffat, and while I'm blanking on the name of Holmes, Martin Freeman plays Watson. Contemporary setting, but I'm liking it very much.

I think when it comes to the States, it's going to be on PBS, I've heard.

ooh, well, that is interesting.

I've got all of the jeremy brett one on DVD if you ever want to borrow. Its the reason I like tall skinny guys...

It's proving quite fun and remains true, at least in my mind, to the spire of the original, even as it's in the modern world. When all three have aired, I'd be happy to give you copies.

Holmes, for example, uses nicotine patches instead of pipes ("It's a three-patch problem"), because it's horrible to be a smoker in London, according to him.

I may need to do that - haven't seen nearly enough versions of Holmes. *grin*
