IUD Stuff

Well, I've got an IUD! Woot!

First off - everyone who recommended the Women's Birth and Health Center: thank you! They really were great there. I'll admit, there was a decent bit of nervousness going in: I've heard the downsides to them, bad experiences, and read all of 'em as well. (The interwubbies, useful for all things.)

Since there was no way I was going to drive myself - initially because I planned on having Vicodin in my system, then because I didn't think it would be a good idea, I asked my ever-wonderful father to give me a ride. I should note, I'm rather close to my father, so I actually asked if he had any comments on IUDs before I spoke to my mother. *grin* 800mg of ibuprofin and some muscle relaxers (they really helped) an hour before and I was good. I opted against taking the Vicodin before-hand as it seems to have different effects on different people, and I didn't want any unpleasant surprises. what can i say, i'm paranoid?

I chose Mirena because one of the side effects of the copper/Paragard is longer and/or more painful periods. Remember what they were like before the pill? Oh gods, no.

The worst bit really was the sounding/measuring. A couple of short, very sharp cramps. Followed by the first attempt to actually insert the IUD. Which, just before she released it, I jerked backwards, which caused a failed attempt. Cue apologies, which were met with a "No worries, everything's fine! Do you want to try again?" Me: "Definitely."

So, she went out to get another one, and I calmed myself down with deep breaths. When she came back, went through it again. And the second time? Not nearly as bad. Just caught a tiny bit of skin in something, which caused me to squeak in pain/surprise, and then it was in.

Wow. I can feel everything down there it seems. What an interesting sensation...

When I got out, [livejournal.com profile] domnall was waiting outside. I'd sent him a text when I went in, so he'd been out there for a little while. So, he took me home, and on the way, the cramps started. oh lovely. And they continued. Not horrendous, but rather annoying. And, well, painful.

So, curled up in bed, and in a little bit took some Vicodin. Which ended up taking a little bit to kick in, and when it did, laid me out for almost 4 hours. Also found an IcyHot disposable back-pain-patch-thingy, which I stuck on my stomach and has been helping. at least i think - i stuck it on not long after the Vicodin I only woke up when [livejournal.com profile] domnall came home.

Your welcome for the muscle relaxers...knew those would be useful. I'm so glad it went well for you honey! And, isn't it weird...that "knowing" where your uterus is now? That was the one thing that was really strange for me when I had mine...

It really is.
